Ergonomics: Simple Changes for a More Comfortable Workday

Writer: Brennan DynesBrennan Dynes

Do you find yourself feeling fatigued and sore after a long day at work? The root cause could be poor ergonomics in your workplace. Your work environment has a big impact on your physical health, and making small changes to improve your ergonomics can help you feel more comfortable and reduce the risk of injury.

Here are some tips to help you create a more ergonomic workspace:

  1. Adjust your chair height and back support. Ensure your feet are flat on the ground and your hips are level with your knees. Make sure your chair provides enough lumbar support to prevent back pain. Use a foot stool if your feet can't comfortably reach the ground with you chair in the appropriate position.

  2. Place your computer screen with the top of the monitor at eye level. This will help prevent neck and eye strain. If you work on a laptop, use phonebooks to raise the screen and invest in a separate keyboard and mouse to keep on your desk.

  3. Keep your keyboard and mouse within easy reach. Avoid reaching or stretching to use your computer, as this can lead to repetitive strain injuries.

  4. Use a document holder to keep important papers within easy reach. This will help reduce neck and eye strain caused by constantly looking down at your desk.

  5. Take regular breaks. Stand up, stretch, and walk around for a few minutes every hour to help prevent fatigue and soreness.

By making these simple changes, you can create a more ergonomic workplace that will help you feel better and be more productive.
